I’ve seen founders:

  • Build entire offers around what their family once praised.

  • Obsess over visuals, because they’re terrified of saying the wrong thing.

  • Rebrand compulsively because “this version” will finally feel right

  • Say they want alignment, but chase algorithms for validation.

They’re understandable decision. They're just made from trauma responses, not conscious design. And because we don’t name this in the business world, we just keep rewarding the performance.

The culture enabling it:

  • Rewards visibility over stability.

  • Monetises self-expression before integration.

  • Confuses dopamine for alignment.

  • Coaches confidence before clarity.

  • Treats feedback like fact.

So it’s no surprise people build businesses that feel emotionally hollow, even when they “work.” If the identity driving your brand isn’t rooted, your strategy will always feel fake.
